The new GHIN handicap system is up and running in the golf pro shop. Thank you for your patience during the transition. If you need help when posting, please ask the pro shop staff. You may also post at home by visiting www.ghin.com; however, you will need your new GHIN # to post. You may look your number up in the pro shop or we can look it up for you. When posting in the pro shop you may use your previous handicap number (referred to as your local number), your new GHIN #, or post by name lookup. The $25 annual fee for this program has been billed to your account (student golfers 18 and under are not charged). Please take a moment to visit the website. If you have not established your handicap # please call the pro shop to get you set up. If you do not wish to participate in the new system please write a note to the office to delete your name from the computer and we will credit your account. The final deadline to drop your handicap fee is March 15th. Requests after March 15, 2013, will not receive credit as the club will be billed by the Golf Association of SC for the active members as of that date. Our website has a new look. Visit www.summervillecountryclub.com and let us know what you think. Thanks for your loyalty and please know how much we appreciate you, Suzanne and Jo-Ann

Bray’s Bogeys
I hope that 2013 has been kind to everyone and like us, are looking forward to another great golf year. We have several exciting events planned this year and plan to add more value to our loyal members. As most of you know, the Carolinas golf association has switched from Golfnet to Ghin for all handicapping purposes. All handicap members have been assigned a new 7-digit Ghin number which will allow you to post scores at your home or at any other course. You will also still have your local number that you may use to enter scores on the new handicap computer in the pro shop. Please feel free to come to me with any questions regarding the new system and if I can’t answer it, I’ll find out from Ghin. Our membership keeps us running and we want to thank all our members for their loyalty over the years. As noted earlier, we want to add more value to your membership with us as we continue to grow and strengthen. Throughout the year, we will host fun and unique member tournaments/ events as well as member specials in the pro shop. To start off, for the next few months we will host a member cart special on Tuesdays – member cart for 18 holes will be $10 (this will be for 18 holes only – normal 9-hole rates will still apply). Also during the same time period, we will be offering a $10 cart special for our Wednesday senior morning group (members only). As far as pro shop merchandise, I plan on continuing to expand our logo to accessories other than just clothing. In the next few months, we should have logo car stickers as well as logo golf bags. Also, we’ll have an early spring sale on golf balls and various 2012 accessories/clothing which will be open to club members before the general public. I am still trying to finalize a member incentive program where dollars spent on pro shop merchandise can be redeemed for golf carts. Once up and running, this program will reward members for purchasing their golfing needs through the club. A schedule of the 2013 club affiliated golf tournaments follows this article. Remember to periodically check the tournament sign-up table down by the coffee machine – this is where all club event sign-up forms will be posted. The
first annual Player’s Cup is scheduled for February 23 at 9 AM. This is a Ryder Cup style match with the top 20 from players of the year standings in 2012. The top 20 plus four staff members will be split into two teams of 12 to compete for pride and lunch – I will be notifying the top 20 in the next few days. Captains will be Gary Hartmann (player of the year) and Rockie Bailey (senior player of the year). The 2013 tournament season is starting up and the first major of the year is right around the corner. The Match Play Championship will begin in March – defending champion is Wilson Rogers. Entry fee will be $15 and includes a hamburger lunch for all participants. Players receive 70% of handicap and will have one week to complete their matches and are responsible for contacting opponents to schedule a time. Sign up is in the pro shop. The February and March Ringer tournament is also now running. Members may sign up anytime in the pro shop for $5 to compete to see who can card the lowest hole by hole total over a span of two months – the earlier you sign up the better chance you have since you can play more rounds. All rounds played in club blitzes are eligible – any non-blitz round needs to be verified in the pro shop and be at least a threesome. The Annual Powerball tournament will take place on February 3 and is a four player captain’s choice with a twist. This is a fun event with oysters and chili after golf. The Summerville High School golf team season is starting up in February and we are proud to be their home course. Practices and matches will not close the course and SHS golf team members know to let faster players through. The annual golf team benefit will be held on March 2 at 8:30 AM and is always a fun captain’s choice event for any individual or four player team interested – three of our current employees – Aaron Huggins, Andrew Purcell and Christian Woods – are part of this year’s team. Once again, we want to thank all of our members for the support over the years and look forward to an exciting season.
